Senior Experience Internship – Environmental Education

We are seeking high school seniors interested in completing their high school senior experience project working for a community nonprofit with an internship focusing on environmental education. Students will deliver the Energy Carnival program, a classroom activity designed for elementary students with a focus on energy and our role in energy conservation in the home. This position offers a great opportunity to work with young students and engage them in a fun program while learning about energy and the importance of reducing our consumption in order to reduce greenhouse gases. In addition to doing outreach, students will work one to two days a week removing invasive species in our parks. Students will be working in a team with other high school students. There are a total of seven positions available.  A small stipend is available to offset transportation costs.

You will….

  • Publicize program availability to teachers and extended day staff.
  • Confirm requests for presentations with all schools and finalize outreach calendar.
  • Prepare and organize supplies for presentations.
  • Assist with invasive species removal in local parks.
  • Deliver presentations to elementary audiences.
  • Compile evaluation results.
  • Document program accomplishments.

Internship Period: This position is 30 hours per week and lasts three weeks. There is flexibility in completing this project between May 15 and June 16, 2017.

Required

  • Interest in environmental issues.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Experience working with kids.
  • Ability to conduct multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work outside.

Preferred

  • Excellent public speaking experience.
  • Spanish-language fluency.

Internship – Outreach and Administrative Assistant

We are seeking an intern to assist with outreach and administration. The position will be from May 2017 through August 2017 for 15 to 25 hours a week. A stipend is available. We are also able to provide college credit.

You will …

  • Coordinate logistics for school and community presentations.
  • Organize ACE presence at community events.
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers to help with outreach.
  • Deliver presentations to school and community groups.
  • Summarize accomplishments in reports.
  • Assist with administrative tasks including data entry, mailings, and research.

  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Experience working with kids.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Willingness to be flexible and to adapt to the changing needs of a growing organization.
  • Demonstrated commitment to renewable energy and environmental protection.
  • Availability to work on weekends and evenings

Bonus points for …

  • Spanish language proficiency.
  • Background or interest in environmental issues.
