ACE environmental presentations are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Classroom presentations are typically 45 minutes, and we encourage you to schedule multiple presentations back-to-back. Topics and grade levels are listed below. We can also customize a presentation for your class.
To schedule, contact the ACE office at 703-228-6427 or office@arlingtonenvironment.org and provide your name, school, grade level, number of students, presentation requested, and three date choices.
The Three Rs. - This presentation focuses on the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling to protect our natural resources and includes an overview of Arlington County's recycling program. Students will learn about examples of how to reduce solid waste and play a recycling game. 1st and 2nd grades (100 students in assembly format)
What's a Watershed? - This presentation focuses on the concepts of watersheds and how pollution in our local watersheds gets into the Chesapeake Bay. Students will design new development projects for the community and analyze how different land uses create different types of pollution. 3rd and 4th grades (30 students)
Energy Use and Climate Change - This presentation provides an overview of how increased carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are affecting our climate and how varied family activities create different levels of carbon dioxide. Students will demonstrate the greenhouse effect, conduct an audit of their family's energy use, and learn how to reduce their impact on the environment. 4th and 5th grades (30 students, 2 consecutive 45-minute lessons)
Green Learning Challenge
The 2007-8 Green Learning Challenge brought together the Arlington County elementary school community to learn from one another, encourage each other, and move forward in creating programs and activities to protect the environment.
