Arlington, VA, May 24, 2001 - Local nonprofit group Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment (ACE) has received funding from Arlington County's Small Parks Program to place interpretive signs about Four Mile Run in a new park being planned at Columbia Pike and Four Mile Run Drive.

The signs emphasize Arlington's connection to the Chesapeake Bay and contain information about how residents can help protect our water quality. With the new funding ACE will produce three signs, joining an existing set of signs in Barcroft Park. ACE will be working with Arlington County to put in the new signs later this year.

"ACE is pleased to be able to place these educational signs in the park," said Martin Ogle, chair of the board of ACE. "They are attractive, informative, easy to understand, and they educate people about the effects of their actions on the local and regional environment. And hopefully they will not only educate, but they will change behavior."

The signs are part of ACE's watershed education program, which includes presentations, volunteer projects, and educational materials. An expanded volunteer program will be kicked off at a July picnic, when ACE and other groups will on hand to recruit people to help with classroom presentations, water quality monitoring, invasive plant removal, and stream cleanups.

ACE is a private non-profit organization that works to improve the environment in Arlington County, Virginia together with citizens, civic associations, local and national government agencies and the business and professional community in order to achieve and maintain a clean and sustainable community. It is supported primarily by the Arlington County government under a grant from the Department of Environmental Services. For more information about other programs and volunteer opportunities contact ACE at 703-228-6427.
