Environmental Educator (Temporary) ACE and the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District are seeking a committed and energetic person to support environmental education and outreach efforts in Northern Virginia. Work location will be Fairfax and Arlington, Virginia with applicant ideally able to divide time between the two locations. This full-time (35 hours/week) 6 month position (~February – August 2008) will require evening and weekend work. Salary: $13-16/hour, depending upon experience.
Under supervision of senior staff, the environmental educator will plan and implement a regional rain barrel program for Northern Virginia. Responsibilities will include planning “build your own” rain barrel workshops and rain barrel distribution events for the public. Specific tasks will include: purchasing supplies and materials, identifying and securing workshop sites; organizing volunteer events and supervising youth volunteers, recruiting and coordinating adult volunteer trainers; program publicity; leading educational presentations; and keeping program records.
The environmental educator will also support other outreach and education initiatives including watershed clean-ups, storm drain education activities, watershed garden tours, school programs, and invasive species removal events, and will have the opportunity to write articles for print or web publication.
Applicants should have a passion for facilitating environmental stewardship, an interest in water resources, be able to work well with adults and youth, and have experience in presenting environmental information to the public. Organizational abilities, writing skills and experience working with or as a volunteer are also desired.
