How do I get involved in ACE?
ACE is a non-profit organization that depends on volunteers. The easiest way to get involved is to join our Yahoo Groups listserv. Every month, ACE sends out an monthly calendar which lists volunteer projects as well as announcements about education programs offered by ACE and other like-minded organizations. Also, check the Web site regularly for new announcements and project updates.
There are also opportunities to get involved in ACE leadership including the Board of Directors and committees. The Board accepts nominations for Director positions beginning in January-please submit a resume and cover letter to the ACE board chair if you're interested. Contact the ACE office for a listing of Committees and contact information.
When does ACE meet?
ACE's annual membership meeting occurs in March. Each year's program features a presentation on an environmental topic plus ACE volunteer project announcements.
The ACE Board of Directors meets the second Tuesday of every month. Meetings are open to the public. Contact the ACE office for exact meeting dates and agendas.
How do I suggest a cleanup site?
ACE welcomes suggestions of areas, including parks and streams, that need attention because of litter or invasive plants. Please contact us with your suggestions. Unfortunately our resources are limited and we cannot schedule cleanups for every site that we receive suggestions for. If you would like to organize a cleanup, ACE can support the project with supplies and advice.
What projects can I (or my group) get involved in?
ACE's monthly calendar of events include varying projects depending on the season including stream cleanups, newsletter mailing parties, science fair judging, invasive plant removal, watershed bike rides, and storm drain marking. We can also customize a project for a church group, youth group, scout troop, class project, or community service project. Please contact us with the size of your group and time frame.
Is ACE part of Arlington County government?
ACE is a private nonprofit that works as an adjunct organization with close ties to the County government. ACE receives funding from the County and has an official staff liaison from the Department of Environmental Services. Our office space is provided by the County.
