Join us for the:
BYOBag Kickoff Ceremony
Sunday, May 18, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Location - Market Commons, 2800 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington
This (rescheduled) event will be part of the Market Commons Spring Fling. The spring fling will include music and kids' activities. The student winners of our BYOBag poster contest will also be recognized.
We'll have free ACE Living Green BYOBags for the first 50 visitors. Our BYOBag campaign will promote the use of reusable bags and raise awareness about the many problems with plastics in our environment.
In March 2008, ACE launched an effort in Arlington to promote broader use of reusable shopping bags and reduce the use and discarding of plastic bags with the following activities:
- A kickoff at ACE's annual meeting in March which included attendance by Arlington environmental activists and exhibits by businesses and organizations promoting information about green living.
- A county-wide educational campaign at grocery, drugstore, and other major retail outlets to spread the word about the detrimental effects of plastic in the environment.
- Collaboration with grocery stores to promote the use of their reusable bags.
- A poster contest in Arlington's 6th grade science classes with the winning poster displayed in retail stores throughout the community.
