Summer Intern

ACE is seeking a summer intern to work as a program and administrative assistant, 10 to 15 hours per week from May 15 through August 15, 2015. This position is available for college credit or on a volunteer basis. A small stipend is available.

You will …

• Coordinate logistics and outreach volunteers for school presentations
• Deliver environmental and energy programs to school and youth groups
• Assist with coordination and execution of outreach events, including the Arlington County Fair
• Write and distribute calendar announcements and other publicity materials
• Assist with social media engagement, as needed
• Other administrative duties as needed

This may be a good fit for you if you are …

• A self-starter
• A college student
• Available to come to S. Arlington office at least five hours a week between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
• Comfortable speaking to groups and classes
• Highly organized and able to work on multiple overlapping tasks
• Comfortable overseeing the work of high school volunteers
• Tech savvy and are familiar with Microsoft Office suite
• Able to work on multiple overlapping tasks
• Highly attentive to detail

Bonus points if you have …

• Experience working with youth
• An interest and/or experience with community nonprofits and/or on environmental issues

Senior Experience Project: School Outreach Positions

Internship Period: This position is 30 hours per week for a three week period between May 18 and June 15, 2015.
Number of Positions: 7

ACE is seeking students interested in completing their high school senior experience project working for a community nonprofit with an internship focusing on environmental education. Students will deliver the Energy Carnival program, a classroom activity designed for elementary students with a focus on energy and our role in energy conservation in the home.

This position offers a great opportunity to work with young students and engage them in a fun program while learning about energy and the importance of reducing our consumption in order to reduce greenhouse gases. In addition to doing outreach, students will work one to two days a week removing invasive species in our parks. Students will be working in a team with other high school students.

You will …

• Publicize program offering to teachers and extended day staff
• Confirm requests for presentations with all schools and finalize outreach calendar
• Prepare and organize supplies for presentations
• Deliver programs to elementary audiences
• Compile evaluation results
• Document program accomplishments
• Assist with invasive species removal in local parks.

You are …
• Interested in environmental issues
• Interested in and have experience working with kids
• Highly organized
• Able to work on multiple overlapping tasks
• Able to work outdoors

Social Media Volunteer

The Web and Volunteer will contribute to the development and of a social media strategy for ACE.

Working closely with the program manager and ACE staff, the volunteer will provide critical support in managing a comprehensive digital strategy for our organization.

You will …

  • Develop digital content including blog posts, press releases, and social media posts.
  • Help monitor, grow, and enhance ACE’s social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google+, YouTube and (soon) Pinterest
  • Assist with editorial calendar management
  • Audit and update key contacts and media lists
  • Assist with social media metrics reporting and analysis, etc
  • Create a web-based media library by organizing and tagging existing photos and video for use in digital marketing campaigns
  • Assist with the relaunch of website

You …

  • Have excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Have experience writing for the web and online platforms
  • Have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Are proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Have working knowledge of Photoshop, WordPress, and Hootsuite.
  • Are an avid user of social media with a particular interest in using social media to advance environmental efforts
