Speaker Biographies

Wendy Rieger anchors News4 at 5 and is a host for News4 This Week. She hosts NBC4's Going Green segments and the Green Room blog. She has covered news in the Washington area for more than 25 years. A native of Norfolk, she graduated from American University with a degree in broadcast journalism. Her community involvement has spanned many local organizations, including Children and the Arts and groups benefiting from the DC AIDS Ride, in which she has participated three times.

Paul Ferguson is the current chairman of the Arlington County Board and the originator of the County's Fresh AIRE campaign. He has served on the Arlington County Board since 1996. During his 10 years on the Board, he has focused on funding for education and public safety. In addition, he has worked to improve pedestrian safety and neighborhood conservation. He is known as a leader on environmental issues. He served on the ACE board in the early 1990s.

Scott Sklar is the founder and president of the Stella Group, a strategic marketing and policy firm for clean distributed energy users and companies with a focus on system standardization. Scott lives in a solar home in Arlington. He also serves as Chair of the Steering Committee of the Sustainable Energy Coalition and is on the Boards of the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council, the Business Council for Sustainable Energy, and the Renewable Energy Policy Project.

Don Waye has been with EPA's Office of Wetlands, Oceans, and Watersheds for nearly five years. Prior to that, he spent 15 years as the Four Mile Run Watershed Program Manager with the Northern Virginia Regional Commission. During his last five years in that capacity, he focused on the problem of excessive bacteria in urban streams and led a series of groundbreaking studies in Four Mile Run that resulted in his being dubbed NVRC's Director of the Office of Fecal Affairs. Hey, it's a living.

Monique Tilford is the Director of Development with the Center for a New American Dream and has over fifteen years of experience in nonprofit management and fundraising. She previously served as the executive director for Wild Earth and the Carrying Capacity Network and has a BA from George Washington University. Monique currently serves as a board member of New Road Map and is an advisory board member for Vermont Earth Institute. She was a board member for ACE in the early 1990s.
